President’s Message Fall Annual Meeting October 16, 2024 The purpose of today’s meeting is to update you on club business, recruit fresh ideas, and make members more comfortable in assuming more responsibility. This is your club and it is made up of the most amazing women with fabulous ideas. 1. Excess balance The question from some of you is about our excess balance and the issue of that because we are nonprofit. FYI: The BOD is aware that we have excess balance as a result of 2 years with COVID affecting our activities and expenditures. Your BOD is pursuing avenues to reduce the surplus by various ideas like subsidizing events and /or subsidizing additional technology support targeted at Wild Apricot. There is no set plan at this time we just wanted you to be aware that this issue is being looked at. |
2. Elections next year It’s hard to believe a year has gone by and we are halfway through this BOD’s term. We have a year to find new leadership. Interested in becoming a BOD member? We would love to talk to you about it. Elected officers by our bylaws serve a 2 year term and cannot serve more than 2 terms. As such we will be holding elections next year at the Fall 2025 annual meeting. Positions that are elected are: President Vice president Secretary Treasurer Positions the nominating committee will be looking for are VP and Secretary. The nominating committee consists of a chair selected by the BOD and includes 4 other members, generally 2 are selected from the general membership. So if the Nominations Chairperson requests you to serve on the committee please accept. We always want new people. Unless something unexpected occurs, Liz Novak our current VP will run for President vacating her position as VP. Susan Diehl will step down vacating her position as Secretary. Mary Marten will continue in her position as Treasurer for another term. We do encourage anyone with interest in becoming more involved in the Club to let us know. While other positions on the Standing committees are appointed I thought it prudent to let the membership know of upcoming vacancies.
Feel free to talk to any BOD members about their positions. Who knows you may be the next new BOD MEMBER. 3. Silver Anniversary and Archiving PDWC History on Wild Apricot. The notion of putting PDWC’s history on Wild Apricot has been kicked around for several years. Debbie Waterman has already put some of the waves by year under documents. Last year our Past President Nancy Soifer agreed to chair a committee to pick out important data and pictures from each year to be formatted and uploaded to Wild Apricot. After many discussions of how to limit the data it was concluded that our best alternative was to put all the Waves and selected pictures by year onto Wild Apricot. We thought this would be easy by scanning each item in. Unfortunately we were very mistaken. Debbie is now pursuing various alternatives from doing it all in-house using a scanner or through an outside company. In the meantime we are looking for volunteers to help pick out pictures to be included, providing captions where necessary and to make them organized for whatever process is used for putting on Wild Apricot. Once we have a committee list we will schedule a meeting. We had one meeting to start the process. I have to tell you, it was so much fun looking at all the pictures and envisioning the memories of the past. While all of this has been going on Nancy Soifer said, I think the 25th anniversary is coming up. And sure enough, the conception of PDWC was March 7, 2000 at Joanne Dugle's home. Now we are brainstorming the Celebration for the Silver Anniversary. One idea is to create a pictorial review of “ Through the Years” to be shown at the luncheon. So if anyone has any pictures old or new to add to our cache please get them to me. Put you name on the back of any hard copies or send them via email. We have several more ideas brewing but are looking for several volunteers to take part on the Silver anniversary party planning committee. It should be a fun and historical afternoon. Betty Gene is in search of a venue that has enough capacity and a screen or smart board. Any ideas for venue should be directed to BG. We will schedule an organizational meeting once the committee is formed. If you like to have fun please join us. That’s two committees that will work side by side as some things are for both committees - one is the Archive Committee the other the Party Committee. You can join one or both. An invite will come out via Wild Apricot to sign up for these committees. Please consider joining. 4. Activity Directors I want to talk briefly about becoming an Activities director and hopefully ease your mind about any misconceptions or angst you may have in taking on the job. Keep in mind we are a very social organization we just want to have fun.
Looking forward to another great year with all of you! |
